About Newen Made

The Name

Newen (pronounced neh-wen) means strength or force in Mapudungun — the language of the Mapuche and Pehuenche people of southern Chile. The name and the Araucaria tree mark that carries it are rooted in a long relationship with the Pehuenche community of the Alto BioBío region. The Araucaria — the monkey puzzle tree — is sacred to the Pewenche people, a source of food, shelter, and identity. It felt like the right symbol for work that's meant to last.

Spending time with Pehuenche artisans in the Alto BioBío left a mark. Their creativity runs deep — shaped by the land, carried through generations, expressed in every piece they make. What struck me most was the intention behind the work: not just making objects, but maintaining a living connection to place, material, and meaning. That kind of craft doesn't separate the maker from what they make.

I felt a genuine connection with those people and what they were doing. When it came time to name this business, Newen wasn't a marketing decision — it was the only word that felt right. This work is a way of honoring that relationship, and a platform for carrying their voice beyond the valleys of southern Chile.

The Shop

Newen Made operates out of a boutique shop in Peachtree City, GA. We work primarily with exotic hardwoods — teak, ipe, Mayan Ruby, Mylady, Caribbean Walnut, acacia, and many more, each sourced for character and durability. Our pieces range from corporate branded displays and heirloom cutting boards to custom furniture and serving pieces. Everything is designed to be built once and not replaced.

The Work

We work with a small number of clients at a time. That's intentional. Every project gets our full attention from design through installation. If you're looking for something fast and cheap, we're probably not the right fit. If you want something built right, let's talk.
